Every year on February 2nd, we celebrate a fun and quirky tradition known as Groundhog Day.
The idea is simple. If the groundhog comes out of its burrow and sees its shadow, it returns inside and we can expect six more weeks of winter. If there is no shadow, it means spring will arrive early!
This tradition began in North America over 100 years ago and has roots in ancient weather lore. It may not be scientifically accurate, but it is a great way to introduce kids to seasonal changes, animal behaviors, and weather patterns in a fun, lighthearted way.
